Seit wann bist du bei der Berliner Koordinierungsstelle gegen FGM_C dabei?

Ich bin seit Anfang an dabei und habe schon in der Konzeptphase
mitgearbeitet.

Was machst du im Projekt?

Ich bin Multiplikatorin, organisiere BCAs (Behaviour Change Activities)
und andere Veranstaltungen in den Communitys und habe zu Beginn des Projekts ein Community Mapping entwickelts, in dem wir eine Erhebung zum Umgang mit FGM in den Communitys in Berlin durchgeführt haben. Ich begleite auch Menschen, die Hilfe brauchen, und bilde Fachkräfte über die Gefahren der Beschneidung aus.

Was motiviert dich im Kampf gegen FGM?

Ich habe diese Praxis überlebt und ich möchte, dass wir durch dieses
Projekt die Mädchen schützen und innerhalb der Communitys das Bewusstsein darüber wächst welches Leid und Probleme einige Überlebende aufgrund dieser Praxis durchmachen.

Was brauchst du, um den Kampf gegen FGM voranzubringen?

Ein solches Projekt ist eine Chance, die weibliche Genitalverstümmelung auszurotten. Zusätzlich zu den Anstrengungen, die unternommen werden, brauchen wir Kontinuität und Unterstützung, damit wir dem Druck der GegnerInnen in unseren Communitys standhalten können, die uns nicht wohlgesonnen sind.Wenn solche Projekte fortgesetzt werden, würde ich gerne Vollzeit dort arbeiten, um unsere Ziele besser zu erreichen.

How long have you been active at the Berlin Coordination Office against FGM_C?

I have been involved since the beginning and I was already involved in the concept phase.

What are you doing in the project?

I am a multiplier, I organize BCAs (Behaviour Change Activities) and at the beginning of the project I developed a community mapping in which we conducted a survey on how FGM is dealt with in the communities in Berlin. I also accompany people who need help and train professionals about the dangers of circumcision.

What motivates you in the fight against FGM_C?

I am a survivor of this practice and I want to protect girls through this project and to raise awareness within the communities about the suffering and problems some survivors go through because of this practice.

What do you need to advance the fight against FGM?

Such a project is an opportunity to eradicate female genital mutilation. In addition to the efforts that are being made, we need continuity and support so that we can withstand the pressure from opponents in our communities who are not sympathetic to us. If projects like this continue, I would love to work full time within them to better achieve our goals.
